Listing...

Today I started lising my books, I have done 3 shelves and just written them in the order they appear, but its quite strange because after doing a shelf I sort of re arranged some of them, not into alphabetical but if they had the same publisher, I have a few old penguin books so they have been moved and some of the books that in the same gendre, like the art and design books have snook together.

As part of this project Im also trying to throw stuff away, I will write it down and say why at the moment its just clothing that I dont like anymore but its a start.

Is there items that you would not throw away? how would you feel if you came home to nothing?

PS.

Its nearly March and I am now working on my final major project for my HND ideas are buzzing but I am yet to make a final desicion on what it will look like, Im not happy about alot of stuff and yet I feel Im being drawn into a lifestyle that just isnt me, Im not at one with nature anymore and I miss it. I shop… Im online… I text .. I email.. how would I deal without all of this.. has it made my life to easy.. well its not made me happy… so investigations are happening…updates will be frequent… online of course

Plan of Action for the week commencing 28th Feb.

Ok so things I need to get done, I need to start writing the list of all the books I own, now I live with my three children who also own books but this is just about me so just my books, Im going to write them down in the order they are in which is random but I will write which room they are in which will be either my living room or my bedroom because I think it will be intersting to see whats where.

Im also going to not buy any more food than we need, so this week will be about emptying the freezers, I have two, when I wasnt well a couple of years ago I filled them so I would nt have to go shopping as often and only need to get things from the local shop or better still send one of the children. ;-)  I also have a pantry area with basics like pasta, rice and beans and other tinned items like pineapple (yum)  so this will be used aswell, so sorry to the children who will be having strange comination dinners this week.

Read the Hunter/ Gatherer books.

Look into going to Cannock Chase or similar for the day to build a shelter and light a fire and maybe forage a little, but I dont think its the right time of year for that.. more research needed.

quite alot to get on with and I am also going to see two Uni's this week and have photos taken of the back of my eyes .. not looking forward to that I can tell you...

more soon !

New Books

I have recieved two new books from Amazon as part of my research, one on hunter/gatherers and another on prehistoric man around the Isles of Western Scotland, this was mainly because I love the Isles and I am interesting in the history of this area and hope to investigate more as the years go on.

I feel these will help me understand the way of life compared to the way we live now. I watched Human Planet last night and tribes people far and wide still go out to collect food, some travelled six miles to get just to the area to hunt, obviously there is no obesity and these people do have times where they go hungry, so life is not idillic. But I feel they are far more in touch with the land and understand the seasons, more at one with the planet. Have we lost our way? I feel that we have lost our way, this country has changed so much and not for the better, would returning to nature and becoming gatherers again help us? would it help me.. I am overwieght, would changing the way I shop help, or going looking for food in the woods? I wouldnt expect to feed the whole family but maybe some mushrooms and wild garlic would be nice.

Lots of questions on a Saturday... have a great weekend...

Hermit.

Could you be a hermit? do you need all the stuff you have? I am considering writing a list of all the things I own and then high lighting them into what is needed and what is wanted, what could I not get rid of and why? I love my books and cant bear throwing them away or even passing them on to others, why am I so attached?  Will I get rid of any of the stuff.... I doubt it but it will put it all in to perspective.

When I moved into my flat in Lichfield I had a tv, we had always lived in rented accomation that was furnished, so nothing...now I have lots of stuff, this year I bought a new sofa which was a first the rest have always been second hand or free off freecycle, but now the children are older and not spilling juice everywhere I thought it would be good.

anyway  time to cook... I will approach the ammount of money I spend on shopping another day...

To Live alone.

Well its nearly the end of my time at Walsall College, I have been here for my foundation year, the HNC and now finishing my HND, this blog will be the one that follows me to the end of the term. During the last brief we looked into home and displacement following on from that I intend to continue my research into nests, cocoons and similar living. I do have a desire to live alone as crazy as it would probably send me, but have a space to call my own where I could hide from the world, wrapped up and safe. Not practicle and maybe do able but this is part of the research. I am going to look at how we used to live, I am very interested in cave dwellings, when I was a child I went to see a Native American settlement called Peublo which was homes carved into the landscape, living with nature within the earth, homes that are dug into the earth using the natural warmth of the ground or tree houses, nest like up with the birds.

So onward....
